Correspondence, General is organized chronologically. It includes correspondence from Lutheran Church in America (LCA), Association of Evangelical Lutheran Churches (AELC), the American Lutheran Church (TALC), and Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod (LCMS) pastors and staff. Topics include the formation of the Task Force on Occasional Services (TFOS), information to participating churches of TFOS progress, and actions taken by the TFOS regarding which materials to include in the Occasional Services manual. Correspondence to TFOS is also arranged chronologically and includes letters from TFOS members to the rest of the task force as well as correspondence from pastors regarding material considered for Occasional Services. Much of the correspondence is from Ralph Van Loon to other TFOS members. Correspondence regards meeting times for the TFOS, pastors and lay people expressing interest in contributing to a book of occasional services, revisions to occasional services (sometimes document drafts are included in the correspondence), and review processes of the LCA, TALC, and AELC. Major correspondents include W. Kent Gilbert, Executive Director of the Division for Parish Services in the LCA; and Mark Bangert, Professor at Christ Seminary-Seminex and chairman of the TFOS. Manuscript Committee material includes three sets of occasional service materials that were sent to TFOS members for review in 1980 and 1981. The sets of material were labeled A-C and contained first drafts of possible occasional service rites. Also included are revisions to occasional services; the revisions are in no order. Minutes of Meetings are the minutes for the TFOS from 1979 to 1981. It also includes Manuscript Committee minutes from 1980 to 1981. Planning material includes work of the drafting and editorial committees, position papers, schedules, speeches, and guidelines for the Occasional Services manuscript. A majority of records deal with Leonard Flachman, Director of Product Development at Augsburg Publishing House. Review and Testing files include papers of Eugene Brand, executive director of the Inter-Lutheran Commission on Worship (ILCW); the LCA Conference of Bishops, Executive Council, Management and Manuscript Committees; and reports, summaries, and responses of TFOS members regarding Occasional Services material. Working Papers include the drafts of various occasional services. Some of the services include Admission of a Congregation, Baptism Anniversary, Birth or Adoption of a Child, Commissioning of a Deaconess, Dedications of church buildings, Installation of Church Council Members and Other Officials, Marriage Anniversaries, and Retirement.
